Colombian banana growers are reporting lower production and weakening prices at the same time. That combination looks contradictory until you remember that price is set by the balance of supply and demand, not by how difficult a season was for the grower. Costs do not automatically translate into price, and the two can move in opposite directions for months.
For frozen fruit buyers the lesson is about risk placement rather than forecasting. When supply and price can move independently, the party who has agreed a term in advance is protected and the party who has not is exposed. That is why price terms deserve the same attention as fruit quality.
FOB, for example, leaves freight and its movement with the buyer. CNF and CIF place freight inside the supplier’s quoted number. DDP and DDU move delivery and duty responsibility to the supplier, which simplifies the buyer’s landed cost but concentrates more risk upstream.
What we do at Newsource: we quote Frozen Blueberry (IQF) on FOB, CNF, CIF, DDP, or DDU, and explain what each term includes before you sign.
The problem it solves: discovering later that a cost movement was never yours to absorb.
Why buyers choose us: terms compared side by side, freight reviewed per order, and one contact for the file.
Ask for your order priced on the term you currently do not use.
